Discover a small but exceptionally distinctive Caribbean reef goby with one of the most elegant stripe patterns among Western Atlantic micro-fishes. The Yellownose Goby, scientifically recognized as Elacatinus randalli, and historically listed in older references as Gobiosoma randalli, is a refined member of the Gobiidae family — a compact reef-associated goby known for its yellow snout, black body striping, peaceful behavior, and specialized cleaner-goby lifestyle.

The body of Elacatinus randalli is slender, elongated, and beautifully adapted for life close to coral structures. Its visual identity is built around a dark upper body crossed by a bright yellow stripe that begins near the eye and continues along the body toward the tail. The yellow facial markings, narrow black banding, pale lower body, and delicate translucent fins create a clean, high-contrast design that makes this tiny goby instantly recognizable despite its small size.

Although it reaches only a few centimeters in length, the Yellownose Goby plays a meaningful role in reef micro-ecology. It is associated with coral heads and reef surfaces, where it may function as a cleaner fish by removing external parasites from other fishes. This behavior gives the species educational importance far beyond its size, showing how even very small reef fishes can contribute to the balance and health of coral communities.

This species is presented under the currently accepted scientific name Elacatinus randalli. The older name Gobiosoma randalli is retained here only as a historical reference because it appears in the original source material. This clarification protects scientific accuracy while preserving the educational connection to older aquarium and marine reference literature.
