Unmask the master of marine disguise. The Robust Ghost Pipefish, scientifically known as Solenostomus cyanopterus — also called the Blue-finned Ghost Pipefish or Racek's Ghost Pipefish — is one of the ocean's most extraordinary camouflage specialists, found across the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to Fiji, Japan, and Australia. This highly cryptic species drifts near seagrass beds, algal flats, and shallow coastal reefs between 2–25 meters depth, where its spiny, ornate body and dramatically variable coloration — ranging from mottled grey-blue and cream to vivid olive-green and red-orange — render it virtually invisible among coral rubble, floating vegetation, and seagrass blades. Unlike seahorses where the male carries eggs, in Ghost Pipefish it is the female who broods the eggs in a pouch formed by her modified ventral fins — a fascinating reproductive reversal that makes this species truly unique among marine fishes.

Developed using real marine reference observations and scientific classification standards.
