Discover one of the most iconic and visually dazzling reef-floor fishes in the tropical Western Pacific. This Marine Explorer Coloring Kit presents the Mandarin Dragonet under the historical scientific name Pterosynchiropus splendidus, a name used in older aquarium and marine reference materials for the species now more widely recognized under the currently accepted scientific name Synchiropus splendidus.
The Mandarin Dragonet is a remarkable member of the Callionymidae family — a peaceful, bottom-dwelling reef fish celebrated for its extraordinary color pattern, delicate fin structure, and slow, deliberate movement across coral rubble and sheltered lagoon habitats. Its compact body is decorated with flowing bands, rounded spots, and maze-like markings that combine orange, blue, turquoise, green, yellow, and dark contrasting outlines into one of the most recognizable natural designs in the marine world.
This edition reflects a distinct visual interpretation of the Mandarin Dragonet, emphasizing a more vivid, highly saturated color presentation with strong blue-green tones, glowing orange markings, and dramatic reef-background styling. These color differences should not be understood as a separate species. Instead, they reflect natural visual variation, lighting conditions, photographic treatment, reference-source differences, and the way this species has appeared across aquarium literature, printed references, and educational artwork over time.
In the CECOZ Marine Explorer Series, this product is kept as a separate standalone edition because it represents the species under the older historical naming reference Pterosynchiropus splendidus and a different color presentation. A second standalone CECOZ product is also available for the same species under the currently accepted name Synchiropus splendidus, featuring a different reference color style and updated scientific naming.
Both products represent the same remarkable fish species — the Mandarin Dragonet — but each edition offers a different educational and visual reference experience for learners, collectors, hobbyists, and marine artists.
