Its body is a deep charcoal brown, framed by electric blue lines and a brilliant yellow border along its dorsal and anal fins, accented by a distinct white patch on its cheek.

​As indicated by the scientific symbols, this species is a peaceful community fish that thrives in aquariums with plenty of swimming space and rockwork for grazing. It is an omnivore/herbivore, feeding primarily on algae and small invertebrates, making it excellent for helping keep tanks clean.
