Discover one of the Indo-Pacific's most brilliantly patterned and visually electrifying reef fish. The Five-Stripe Wrasse, scientifically known as Thalassoma quinquevittatum, is a spectacular member of the Labridae family celebrated for its extraordinarily vivid and geometrically precise color pattern — a bold arrangement of deep violet-purple wavy stripes flowing over a luminous base of electric green and golden yellow that creates a visual effect unlike almost any other reef fish in the world. Running from snout to tail, the bold undulating bands of violet and purple weave across the body in smooth, flowing curves that ripple with the fish's every movement, giving the impression of a living, animated mosaic. The mid-lateral region of the body glows with a warm golden-yellow stripe that cuts through the center of the flanks, providing a brilliant contrast to the cool purple and green tones that surround it. The tail and posterior sections complete the palette with cool blue-green tones, creating a seamless and harmonious gradient from warm to cool across the full body length. The name quinquevittatum derives from the Latin for "five-banded," a direct reference to the five distinct longitudinal color zones that define this species' unmistakable livery. Found across the Indo-Pacific reef system and extending into the Red Sea, this species inhabits shallow reef crests and open reef flats where it swims actively and confidently in small groups or alone, foraging continuously for small crustaceans and invertebrates. Its exceptional color vibrancy, bold symmetrical banding, and wide Indo-Pacific distribution make it one of the most visually commanding and scientifically meaningful subjects in the CECOZ Marine Explorer Series.
