Cleidopus gloriamaris — glory of the sea.

It carries living light. On each side of its lower jaw sits an organ housing colonies of symbiotic Vibrio fischeri bacteria; the glow shifts from green to red as the fish ages, and vanishes entirely when it closes its mouth. Divers named it the port-and-starboard light fish, after the navigation lamps of ships.

It has no true scales — only bony plates locked into armour and outlined in black, which is where the pineapple comparison comes from. It is the sole member of its genus. And it is found nowhere on Earth except the coastal waters of Australia.

Three independent axes of rarity meet in one animal: geographic endemism, a monotypic genus, and a living bacterial symbiosis. No other piece in this collection carries more than one. That is why #014 sits at the top tier.
