Meyer Butterfly Genesis (Chaetodon meyeri) — Digital Soul #009

Meyer's butterflyfish is drawn with curved black lines across a bluish-white body — a pattern so distinctive it looks deliberate, like calligraphy.

It is also one of the most specialised fish on the reef. Chaetodon meyeri is an obligate corallivore: it feeds almost exclusively on the polyps and mucus of Acropora coral and will accept virtually nothing else. It cannot be kept in an aquarium. It cannot follow the coral if the coral dies. Its entire existence is bound to a single genus of coral.
