Pinnate Batfish Genesis (Platax pinnatus) — Digital Soul #012

Velvet black, outlined in burning orange, with dorsal and anal fins stretched far beyond the body.

The colour is not decoration — it is a disguise. Juvenile Platax pinnatus mimic toxic flatworms of the genera Pseudoceros and Callioplana, drifting with an undulating motion that imitates a poisonous invertebrate rather than a fish. Predators leave them alone.

As the fish matures the orange fades, the fins shorten, and it becomes a plain silver disc. The disguise is abandoned once it is no longer needed. Digital Soul #012 preserves the phase most people never see.
